Water is the most plentiful substance in the body. It accounts for 55 to 65 percent of our body weight. Water is essential for our overall health. It is a main component of all the cell, tissue and organ in the body and plays significant roles in almost every function of the body.

Functions of water in the body include:

· carrying of oxygen and nutrients through the blood

· Regulating the body temperature

· Serving as an essential component of chemical reactions

· Helping in the removal of waste through urine, perspiration and feaces

· Lubrication and cushioning of joints

· Water acts as a major component of body fluids like as mucus and tears

· Water give body cells shape and stability

· Protect your spinal cord and other sensitive tissues

The body can't store water; therefore, we must continually refill it. It is good to drink pure water, or drinks that are generally water all throughout the day.

Getting enough water every day is important for your health. Healthy people meet their fluid requirements by drinking when thirsty and drinking with meals. The majority of your fluid needs are met through the water and beverages you drink. Though, you can obtain some fluids through the foods and fruits you eat.

Your body would normally require more water when you are:

· In hot climates

· More physically active

· Feverish

· Having diarrhea or vomiting

Dehydration occurs when your body loses more water than it takes in. Your body loses water through urination, respiration, and by sweating. Your body also lose more water when you're active than when you're sedentary.
